Jack Drapers pathway to tennis success seemed all but predetermined from a young age. Jack who was born in Sutton and grew up in nearby Ashtead was surrounded by the world of tennis throughout his childhood, Jacks' Father Rodger was a former chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association, meanwhile his mother Nicky was a multiple Junior British champion. His brother Ben played collegiately for California-Berkley and his Grandmother Brenda played county tennis for Dorset. (Information in accordance with Price, (2024)).

Jack first entered the top 100 player rankings at the age of 20 following a first round victory at Roland Garros over former French player Gilles Simon. Since then, Jack has continued his rise on the court and is currently ranked world no 14 in the ATP rankings, with a career high of 4th following a breakout 2025 season.

But how did Jack get to this point? And what was his route to tennis stardom?

Born in 2001 Draper started playing tennis as a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler at the Sutton Tennis and Squash Club by hitting a ball against a wall, (Davies, 2024). His mother, a coach at the club, took him to his first training session aged six. Draper attended Parkside School in Cobham aged 4-11 and was coached regularly by Justin Sherring during these years. Later Jack moved to Reed’s School, a well-known source of inspiration for British tennis talent such as Tim Henman OBE.

Following this Draper progressed into an impressive junior player, reaching a career high International Tennis Federation (ITF) ranking of no 7. Not too long after this and it didn’t take Draper long to create a name for himself, in 2018 he finished runner-up in the boy's singles tournament during the Wimbledon championship and although coming up short, he instantly made a name for himself on one of tennis’s biggest stages.

Succeeding his Junior Wimbledon success Draper turned professional and slowly progressed through the ATP rankings, making his Grand Slam main draw debut in 2021 where he took a set of the eventual tournament winner Novak Djokovic, gaining praise for his performance, Majendie, M. (2021)

However, unlike many British stars such as Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu, Draper failed to make the transition into professional tennis instantaneously and instead his full arrival came in 2022, Fraser (2022). During this period Draper began to formulate a winning record and after a series of good results including a run in the French Open, he finally found himself in the ATP 100.

Going into 2023 Draper had momentum and was in the best form of his career so far, as he entered into a career high no 34 in the ATP rankings, ATP tour (2023). However, it was a similar story, as injuries plagued what looked to be a promising year for him. It wasn’t until 2024 that Draper was able to turn potential into high level performances and results. During this time, he was able to win his first tour title in Stuttgart, defeat Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets (Lambert 2024) and reached the semi-final in the US Open, his highest finish in a Grand slam event.

2025 was the year however that cemented Draper as not just a ‘prospect’ or ‘contender’ but an elite level Tennis player challenging for major trophies across the tour. During 2025 Draper achieved an Indian Wells title, reached a Masters final in Madrid and achieved a career high no 4 ATP ranking (stats according to the LTA.org.uk).

Draper continues to progress at the highest level however currently sits at an ATP ranking of 24 and has found himself drop to a British ranking of no 2 after Cam Norrie's deep run in Indian Wells, Fuller (2026). But with his two most successful Majors in previous years still to be played, the US open and Wimbledon, it seems the sky is the limit for one of Britains great tennis players of this generation.
